Medziphema, May 19 (MExN): In house meeting for discussion on various issues of animal sciences based projects in Nagaland was organized on May 19 at ICAR RC for NEH Region Nagaland Centre. A total of 16 scientists from ICAR Nagaland Centre, NRC Mithun and faculty staff from SASRD, Medziphema along with Dean attended the meeting.
The meeting was organized particularly to discuss the various issues related to the implementation and better coordination of mega seed project on pig, AICRP on pig and poultry seed project.
The scientific meeting started with the presentation on MSP-Pig and PSP of ICAR Nagaland Centre by Dr. Mahak Singh, Scientist, ICAR Nagaland Centre followed by in house discussion on the same. Dr. Nazrul Haque, Principle Scientist, NRC Mithun has suggested analysing the feed quality from time to time and he has also stressed on developing the conventional type of feed for pig with the mixing of agro-industry by-products as it will reduce the cost of pig rearing at farmer’s field.
Dr. N.Haque, further, suggested to have hatcher with facility to monitor the carbon dioxide level and its effects on growth and productive performance. Dr. R.C.Gupta, Dean, SASRD, Medziphema suggested to study the effects of sulphur containing amino acid supplementation in pig and poultry particularly glutathione, methionine and cysteine. He also advised for research on feeding of flat cactus to pigs during water scarcity period. He also emphasized on having a joint research programme for pig and poultry development with ICAR Nagaland Centre and SASRD Medziphema.
Dr. D.J.Rajkhowa, Joint Director, ICAR Nagaland Centre suggested the house to find out the research gap in pig and poultry in Nagaland and prioritize the research work according to that only. He also elaborated on the various housing and feeding methods to be undertaken under NICRA. He further stressed to develop various kind of pig pen model under different climatic condition under Nagaland. Dr. Rajkhowa also suggested the house to find out the best technology preferred by farmers and what are the lacunae in our technology. He also asked the concerned scientist to prepare a status paper on pig farming in Nagaland along with constraints and prospects.
In the end it was decided to have two different approaches for further development in the field of livestock husbandry in Nagaland. First, to develop some feasible technologies in the field of animal nutrition at institute and second for extension work in farmer’s field. The meeting ended with vote of thanks to the chair by Dr. Mahak Singh.
