Social Audit under MGNREGS for Tuensang and Noklak held

The 5th Phase Social Audit District Level Public Hearing under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) for Tuensang and Noklak districts was convened at DRDA Hall in Tuensang town on March 6.
Chaired by Y Hijila Yimchunger, PO (MGNREGA), DRDA, Tuensang, the event began with an introductory session led by VepoKeyho, State Resource Person, NSSAA, SAU, Nagaland. Keyho emphasised the importance of social audits and district-level public hearings in ensuring transparency and accountability within the scheme's framework.

The focal point of the hearing was the presentation of Social Audit findings covering 26 villages across Tuensang and Noklak districts. Khrutalu Shijoh, DRP, and Shilumeren Sangtam, BRP, NSSAA, SAU, Nagaland, meticulously presented the findings, prompting discussions among stakeholders.

Toking Yimchunger, EAC Tuensang Hq, served as an independent observer representing the district administration. He stressed the significance of proper bookkeeping by functionaries and encouraged Village Development Boards (VDBs) to strengthen their commitment to rural upliftment.

The event concluded with resolutions aimed at addressing the issues raised during the hearing: Acknowledgment and commitment to rectify Social Audit findings; Resolution of issues raised during Gram Sabha meetings, including the organization of Rozgar Diwas, maintenance of project documentation, and improvement of awareness on MGNREGS; Rectification of discrepancies in financial data between MIS and Social Audit verification; Addressing mismatches in Job Card data between MIS and Social Audit findings; Proposal for conducting training sessions on bookkeeping and Rozgar Diwas awareness at the block level; Initiation of necessary actions for the recovery of outstanding amounts identified during the Social Audit process.
The resolutions were unanimously agreed upon.

The event saw attendance from key stakeholders, including district officials, village representatives, and community members, highlighting their collective commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of welfare schemes aimed at rural development.
