Tuensang, January 18 (MExN): A Soil Health Camp cum training programme was conducted at Lirise village on January 18 for the Large Cardamom farmers by KVK, Tuensang under the Division of Soil Conservation.
Yohose President , Large Cardamom Growers Association (LCGA), Lirise encouraged the farmers to take advantage of such programme to learn and change their attitude for scientific cultivation and management for achieving sustainable and sound cultivation with the changing climatic scenario.
About 70% of the villagers are cultivating large cardamom and farmers have their soil samples analyzed by the Kendra for which Soil Health Cards have also been distributed, stated a press release.
Resource person Imtilemla ACTO (Soil Conservation) spoke on the general management of soil health and highlighted the importance of soil testing and soil health card, which is important for maintaining the status of soil fertility and getting economic yields.
She elaborated on different types of inputs farmers can use in their fields for boosting yield and maintaining fertility status of the soil.Method demonstration was also conducted on how to lay out contour lines so as to incorporate the technique in their future endeavor. Soil samples were submitted to the Kendra by the farmers during the programme for analysis.
Imtilemla further highlighted on the importance of soil and leaf nutrient management and demonstrated on construction of half-moon terraces which is an important and integral part of soil, water and nutrient management in any orchard.
Altogether 44 farmers from Lirise, Chungtor and Chimonger attended the training.
