Speech of Y Kuimukam Yim, Vice President of NNC (NA) on the occasion of its 64th Naga National Independence on 14th August 2011

My dear countrymen,
On this auspicious day the 14th of August 2011 as we commemorate the 64th Naga Independence Day I bring greetings to you all in the name of our Almighty God. Indeed Nagas have come a long way in their fight for self determination. It was the political far sightedness of our predecessors that on this day in the year 1947 the Naga Nation declared our independence to the world. Our declaration of Independence was intimated to the United Nations which had acknowledged the same.
Nagas were never a part and parcel of India. We are a distinct race having our own culture, customs and tradition which is entirely different from the Indians and we have been living independently of each other since time immemorial. We have never been under India by consent or conquest. But India has been consistently claiming Nagaland as a part of India and herein lies the main reason of our conflict we are not fighting secession from India rather we are only asking India to recognize our political right and leave us to decide our political destiny. If India recognizes this the matter ends there and the Nagas Country and India can co-exist as friendly neighboring countries if not the bloody conflict will carry on. India had tried to suppress our spirit of nationalism through her mighty armed forces. But inspite of her best effort our resolve to be a free nation has grown stronger. We have never wavered in our stance and God has always been our guiding factor. And now India has also acknowledged that Naga issue is political in nature and it can be resolved only through political dialogue.
On this historic day NNC (NA) extend our appreciation to the Indian leaders for their political wisdom and call upon them to be very sincere and honest in their approach to solve our difference at the earliest. But let me also remind the GOI that any settlement or solution to our issue should be a honorable one which will be acceptable to all the Naga people. The Govt of India should also take into confidence all the Naga National group in order to find out a permanent solution of the Nagas.
NNC (NA) also take this opportunity to thank all the international organization who have extended their unflinching support to our cause. It is through your support and prayer that the Naga cause has gained international recognition and we are where we stand today. We will always be indebted to you all for your undying support and encouragement and the Nagas will be there for you to lend our support in every possible way in all your endeavour.
In the Homefront, in our struggle for self determination there has been many upheavels. Some for good and others with negative impact. Inspite of all these we have overcome all hindrance and we are marching ahead with our mission. On this historic day may I call upon all National worker from all the groups to restrospect ourself. If we have committed any mistakes in the past let us forgive each other, if we are making any mistake presently let us mend ourselves and accept each other as brothers and sisters and work unitedly towards achieving our goal because our goal is one and the same. Let us shed all our arrogance, ego etc., let us shed all our differences and accept each other and work together towards achieving our desired goal. If we are honest to each other and transparent in our dealing with each other and accept each other and work together then I don’t see why our desired goal cannot be achieved. But if we remain a divided house then we are doomed. There will be more bloodshed than ever and we will be in a very sorry state. I appeal to all Naga National workers on this historic day to come under one banner and work unitedly for self determination.
On this historic day I also extend my appreciation and gratitude to all the Naga Civil societies namely Naga Hoho, NMA, NGO special mention may be made to the FNR for your tireless effort in overseeing that peace prevails in our land. It is through your effort that bloodshed has stopped in our land, fratricidal killings have been contained and the effort your have put to bring all the Naga National group under one banner is most commendable. It is the sincere prayer of the NNC (NA) that you will all work ceaselessly for the peaceful co-existence of all Naga national workers. I also appeal to you all to take the confidence of all the Naga National Group.
On this historic day the NNC I(NA) also extends its revolutionary salute to all our revolutionary comrades who have sacrificed their tears, blood and life for the Naga cause. Your sacrifice will never go in vain and we will work to the end for which you have sacrificed for our nation. The sacrifice that you have made for the Naga Nation has gone down in the annals of Naga History and your name liveth for ever more. We will carry on the legacy of your sacrifice till we achieve our sacred goal. The NNC (NA) will work ceaselessly and ensure that the upcoming generation will be able to live with dignity with their heads held high among the numerous Nations.
Lastly let me remind the Naga People that the greatest gift of God to mankind is land. God created man to be the master of this universe of all its natural resources, flora, fauna etc, and every sect of people has occupied portion of land which we call it our homeland. Any sect of people without their bounded land which they can call it as their homeland becomes a refugee camp. I appeal to the Naga people to be very conscious of this and sacrifice our everything to protect our God gifted Motherland which we can call our Homeland and our Nation.
God Bless our Motherland Nagaland
God Bless the Naga People
God Bless NNC (NA)
