Some of those who voted YES had this to say:
• I think so only for a very small minority of people.
• For me I can say yes.
• Yes, Christmas is being celebrated to its fullness. But I do not know whether it is in a good sense or in a bad sense. We are taking everything for granted these days. Even the violence that occurred is being taken for granted. We forget that there is a God who will be our ultimate judge.
• Yes. Christmas is the best season for us in Nagaland. No where do we celebrate it like we do.
Some of those who voted NO had this to say:
• I think not. The reason: its minus Jesus, the reason for the season. Hornbill Festival has actually sabotaged the Christmas spirit, and Christmas is celebrated in a hangover state.
• Coz people have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas! They celebrate for enjoyment!!!
• Not at all. The spirit of Christmas has been reduced to consumerism and festivities.
• No, to be honest I don't even feel like going to church every Sunday, I wish our missionary do some more research in their field and make church more vibrant, to me going and doing activities seems quite monotonous. I am 26 years old may be i need to introspect deeply and... i feel people are swaying away for the core of church ideologies. This days lesser people seems to be attending the church unlike decade back. Just my opinion.
• No, It seems Christmas is a festival of Meat, Decoration and FIRECRACKERS.
• No original Christian in Nagaland
• No. Christmas is consider just another holiday by youngsters and as a burden by the parents. Materialistism and selfishness has overshadow the real meaning of christmas in our lives, each time we failed to gift each other a christmas joy and experience christmas in its fullness. We will learn the real meaning of christmas only when we trade joy witg each other.
• No people this days regard it as a party day to drink and enjoy their life without knowing what really the christmas is all about. People should know that there cannot be a birthday celebration without the birthday boy so one should welcome Lord Jesus into their heart and renew their life and share the joy of christmas.
• No, there is war-like situation everywhere, ie the displaced Rengmas in KA, Zunheboto case, the murder of the principal’s son of CHSS Dimapur, many vehicle accident case among the youth, fire crackers wasting previous money resources, etc. Christmas in the present form is more physical pleasures and less of spirituality. Naga Christians need to make earnest peace with God so that each one can make peace with their neighbor! “Peace on Earth and goodwill towards men.”
• No, we Nagas have forgotten the meaning of Christmas long time ago. Today we are Christians only by name and not by our actions and thoughts. We Nagas have ignored the purpose for which our God created us. This is very sad.
• No, there is spiritual decadence in our land and in our hearts.
• No, Nagas celebrated Christmas with hatred and violence
Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:
• Nagas are too much on both extremes. Either we are too religious or we are not at all religious. We all don’t hesitate to claim that this is Nagaland for Christ. We are all fooling our selves and we are cheating God too. The way we have celebrated Christmas in 2013 with violence and bloodshed only shows how far we have gone away from the teachings of Jesus Christ.
• If only we really know the cost of being a Christian, our state would have been a wonderful place to live - everyday a Christmas
• A commercialized Christmas spirit definitely, but a spiritual one? Now that's a far cry...
• These days its more like instead of waiting for the birth of Christ, Santa Claus seems more important!!!!
• perhaps i shud call it christawali. d bursting of crackers n magnificient firework from 5 p.m till 5 a.m will demonstrate how sincere n devoted believers will be celebrating their saviour's birthday. Humanity first n be a responsible human.
