St John College organises webinar on ‘Role and responsibilities of students’

Dimapur, October 4 (MExN): The Department of Education, St John College (SJC), Dimapur organised a webinar on ‘Role and responsibilities of students: with special reference to Naga Society’ with Sentilong Ozukum, SDO (Civil) Mokokchung on October 1.

On planning for their life goal, Ozukum state, “if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail because we end up being a failure if we don’t plan ahead.” He mentioned that students should “keep the main thing, the main thing” which means “for students the main priority is to learn, so they should challenge themselves to learn new things everyday and not be distracted by other less prioritizing matters to them.”

As students and scholars, Ozukum also advised the participants to pursue purpose not pleasure, pursue meaning and not happiness. “If you pursue pleasure and happiness it will leave you disappointed but real joy and contentment comes when we pursue purpose and meaning,” he said.

“As the youth of Nagaland,” he encouraged the participants “to develop a global mentality because it is time to move beyond deep rooted tribalistic mindset and develop a global mentality.” The speaker, through multiple analogies showed the students how sitting idle and not working hard could lead to myriad ways of failure in their lives. He also reiterated how education should not be confined to the classrooms only but it should be about Ideas and Innovations that one learns to build.

He concluded by saying “do not let the sun go down every day without learning anything, keep thinking and explore the world, explore your thinking capacity, the world is in the palm of your hands.”

SJC media cell in a press release stated that the programme was moderated by Roselin Chang, Assistant Professor, Department of Education and the session commenced with a welcome note from Prof ST Janetius, Principal, SJC.
