State Govt cautions depts on illegal collection at check gates

PAC volunteers to begin exercise against illegal collections from September 16

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 14 (MExN): The Nagaland State Chief Secretary today cautioned persons/department against indulging in illegal collection of money at check gates.

The notice comes as the Public Action Committee (PAC) of the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) prepares to deploy volunteers in Dimapur to ensure that there is no illegal collection from commercial vehicles by state or non state actors. The exercise is set to begin from September 16.

The State Chief Secretary today issued a notice taking note of the PAC’s representation to the Governor and the Chief Minister with regard to the issue. “The Government has not authorised any collections except by those departments which are tasked to collect fees/ royalty, the rates of which are approved and fixed,” the government informed.

It intimated all departments that the revenue collected should be as prescribed by the government. “Any department which has not been authorised to collect fees/royalty are not to make any collection and the departments which are empowered to collect taxes such as forest royalty etc should levy the same as fixed by the government,” it added.
The notice cautioned any person or department found violating the same “will be sternly dealt with as per the provisions of law,” and sought that reports of any such violation should be brought to the government's notice.

The PAC had earlier asked the Dimapur Police to deploy security forces at all check gates and provide escort vehicles for commercial vehicles to cross Dimapur. It also asked that commercial vehicles entry from 5:00am-7:00am and 7:00pm to 10:00pm be strictly enforced.

The PAC, in a press release, has made clear that their exercise is not against any state or non-state actor but to curb illegal collection of money.
