Kohima, October 20 (MExN): With the objective of “adding colour to the School curriculum,” the government of Nagaland has launched Music Curriculum on a pilot basis under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA).
The Government Higher Secondary School, Pfutsero will be the first school to introduce the Music Curriculum, the Nagaland’s Principal Secretary for School Education announced while launching the Music Curriculum, a DIPR reported informed.
He further informed that Music Curriculum was approved by the Ministry at the centre on a pilot basis for Nagaland and expressed hope that it will also “attract and retain possible dropouts in school.”
The felicitation of the Secheku Children Music Ministry (SCMM) cum launching of Music Curriculum was held at Mesulumi Village Baptist Church under Phek district on October 18.
SCMM: A unique ministry
The SCMM was founded by Khrowutso Letro, a young talented and accomplished musician, who takes music lessons for 13 villages travelling on a motorbike.
The 13 villages fall under Sucheku Area, a pocket of Phek District under SDO (C) Chizami Sub Division, according to the DIPR report.
The children, after receiving two Classes per month since March 2015, appeared for the Music Theory Examination conducted by the London College of Music and performed exceptionally.
7 students scored distinction marks of 90% and above; 5 passed in merit with above 70% and 8 passed with 60% and above marks, it said.
The Addl. Chief Secy & Finance Commissioner, Temjen Toy felicitated the successful students by giving away certificates from the London College of Music along with violins for the top three and token cash incentives for the remaining 17 students.
He also lauded Letro for the work he is doing through the SCMM and encouraged the students to strive and excel and become assets to the society, it added.
The programme was chaired by Kevileno Angami, Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) which was attended by about 500 people including District Administration and School Education officials, village functionaries, Church leaders, well wishers, invitees, parents and children. Rev VK Nuh performed the act of blessing while Pastor of Sumi Village Baptist Church and Lila Lea spoke on behalf of the parents and students respectively. The Music students also performed during the event.
