
Dimapur, October 24 (MExN): The Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur office launched Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan (SUMAN) scheme and also observed Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder Day at CMO’s conference hall, Dimapur on October 21. The SUMAN scheme was launched by Yanthungbemo, SDO (C) Dimapur.
Dr Rebecca, DPO RCH-UIP, in her presentation stated that SUMAN scheme aims to provide dignified and quality health care free of cost to every woman and newborn visiting a public health facility. SUMAN scheme is part of the imitative by Government of India to prevent maternal and newborn deaths in the country. Under the scheme, pregnant women, mothers up to 6 months after delivery, and all sick newborns will be able to avail free healthcare benefits.
Under the scheme, the beneficiaries visiting public health facilities are entitled to several free services. These include at least four ante natal check-ups that also includes one check-up during the 1st trimester, at least one check-up under Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan, Iron Folic Acid supplementation, Tetanus diptheria injection and other components of comprehensive ANC package and six home-based newborn care visits
Dr Antoly Suu, Dy Chief Medical Officer presented on Iodine Deficiency Disorders. She stated that Global IDD Prevention Day was observed to spread awareness on the importance of iodine in our daily diet, iodine deficiency and its devastating effects on brain development and overall growth.
Short speeches were also shared by Yanthungbemo Kikon, SDO (C) Dimapur and Dr Kutsutho, Sr Specialist, District Hospital Dimapur. The programme was attended by Medical Officers and health worker representatives from all health units, Village Health Committee members, and staff under CMO Dimapur.
Wokha: SUMAN scheme was launched by SDO (Civil) Wokha, Tsidi at Dr Motsuo Memorial District Hospital Wokha on October 21. He said the government implement many health policies and it is the health workers who have to ensure that these policies are successful.
Dr Toshirenla, Chief Medical Officer, Wokha stated that SUMAN was launched in 2019 and aims to provide quality services to pregnant women and hoped that launching of this scheme will benefit the beneficiaries in the district.
Brief introduction on SUMAN was delivered by Dr Azo Louis Kharutso, Obs & Gynae, District Hospital Wokha where he emphasized on the importance of the providing dignified quality care to the mother and child. SUMAN, an extended version of Lakshya which was launched in 2017, is aimed at providing assured maternity services, he added.
Dr Azo further said the Government of India wants to reach zero maternal and infant mortality by giving these services to pregnant women at health facilities. He called upon the stakeholders to create awareness on the services available for pregnant women at health centres.
The programme was chaired by Dr Aseno Rhetso, DPO (NCD), invocation by Yanaboni, DH staff and vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Thungbemo, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital.
