DIMAPUR, JULY 23 (MExN): On account of the worsening situation over the proposed meet at Seyochung town on July 25, the Kiphire District Sumi Hoho has urged the Deputy Commissioner, Kiphire to immediately withdraw Licensed Arms & Ammunitions. The press communiqué issued by the President KDSSU, Atoka Chophy appealed for this measure irrespective of tribes from all the villages under Seyochung area, including those arms and ammunition issued by the government to Village Guards as a precautionary measure so as to defuse the tension between the communities.
The union also welcomed the deployment of security forces at Seyochung town since yesterday however warned that this should not be a force to disrupt the proposed meeting. The KDSUU also demanded to know on what grounds the administration had allowed the United Sangtam Students’ Conference to hold a meeting at Natsami village on July 5. They also questioned on the meeting of the Sangtam elders of Seyochung area including the United Sangtam Likhum Bhujmi members, GBs, student leaders etc. on July 22 at Old Monger village held solely to discuss the ensuing current problems.
The union also demanded to know why particular communities were exempted from the purview of SDO ©’s order dated 21/07/07 saying that the order had been practically forced on the Sumis forgetting the recently meet of the Sangtams at Old Monger village.
The Kiphire District Sumi Students’ Union while stating that the same yard stick should be applied to both the communities wondered whether the administration is playing a dirty game and cautioned that they would be held responsible in case of adverse consequences developing as a result of the biased attitude orchestrated by the administration.
