Sungkomen Ward triumphs in 3rd Mokokchung Inter-Ward Volleyball Tournament

Sungkomen Ward clinched the title in the 3rd Mokokchung Inter-Ward Volleyball Tournament 2024, emerging as champions for the second time in the tournament’s history. The event, held at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung, from August 7, ended on the evening of August 9 with the final showdown, showcasing intense competition among the eight participating wards, culminating in a thrilling final against the defending champions, Kumlong Ward.

The final match was a nail-biter, with Sungkomen Ward securing victory with scores of 26-24, 15-25, 25-17, and 26-24.

Mangyangnungba, President of the NDPP Mokokchung Region, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor. He praised the Kumlong Sporting Association for its efforts in nurturing players who are capable of representing Nagaland on larger platforms.

He also acknowledged the positive transformation in the sports landscape under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and the PDA government, noting that sports, once merely recreational, have now become a viable career option. He encouraged the gathering to pursue their talents to make a living.

Sungkomen Ward, as the champions, received a cash prize of Rs 30,000, certificates, and the winning trophy. The runners-up, Kumlong Ward, were awarded a cash prize of Rs 20,000, certificates and the runners-up trophy. Individual accolades were also given, with Niuto of Sungkomen Ward named Best Setter, Nungshitemjen of Sungkomen Ward as Best Spiker, and Tsuknungtemjen of Kumlong Ward honored as the Player of the Tournament.

The tournament, organized by the Kumlong Sporting Association under the aegis of the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA), gave a significant platform for identifying and nurturing volleyball talent in Mokokchung Town.
