Aizawl | March 29
The Mizoram government has introduced supply chains to tackle the problem of supply of essential commodities and vegetables in view of the COVID-19 related lockdown.
On Saturday, about 20 pick-up trucks loaded with vegetables were dispatched to Aizawl.
In certain localities in Aizawl, vegetables are distributed by local level task force free of cost, leaving none to face inconvenience because of the nation-wide lockdown.
“This shows Mizo code of moral conduct 'One who hoard dies and other who share live,'" a local leader said, adding that the Mizo people are close-knit society and having heart for helping others. "One Mizo could not see his neighbour starving", he also said.
In several areas, volunteers were also seen providing food items to migrant workers and those who transport essential commodities.
As the nation-wide lockdown entered the fifth day on Sunday, all streets across the state wore a deserted look.
People stayed indoors and vehicles stayed off the road barring few officials and policemen who were on duty.
The people also strictly followed 'social distancing' norms as in some shops circle are maintained to avoid close contact.
