Team inspecting NEC projects covers 1000 km by road

A state appointed team with Agriculture Production Commissioner, Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS as the Team Leader to inspect and monitor NEC projects in the state has since September 14 covered nearly 1000 km by road traversing through sub-divisions, towns and villages under Zunheboto, Mokokchung, Longleng and Kohima districts.

This was informed during a press conference addressed by the Team in Commissioner’s Rest House, Mokokchung on September 19. Kikheto said that his team was inspecting various NEC projects in the state on behalf of NEC and as entrusted by the state government. He said the team had inspected at least 10 projects in Zunheboto, Mokokchung and Longleng districts including Kohima which they would be visiting after addressing members of the press. Kikheto expressed satisfaction with the work progress of all the projects the team had visited and encouraged the contractors and entrepreneurs to be further sincere and complete the projects on time. 

The team also held meetings with the district administrations, agri and allied departments and also with villages during their journey and emphasized on the need to go back to agriculture using modern techniques. Kikheto strongly stressed on integrated/settled farming with the convergence of all agri and allied departments for doubling the income of the farmers and a sustainable livelihood.

He also informed that the government after studying the situation might take a decision to ban import of products that can be produced from within the state.

The APC lauded the Mokokchung district authorities and the citizens for being conferred the cleanest city award in the region. 

Also addressing the media, Chief Engineer, Water Resources, Er. Hotovi Ayemi appealed the public to conserve water through water harvesting structures to be used during dry season. He informed that the Department which was earlier known as Irrigation & Flood Control was identified as the nodal department for water resources in 2016 and has been working towards creating awareness on water conservation and harvesting.

The team later headed towards Kohima to inspect the road from Chiephobozou to Touphema via Chiethu. The team would further continue its tour inspecting projects in Dimapur and Kohima on September 24 and 25.
