The entire state Cabinet has decided to leave for New Delhi on Sunday (August 16), the day after Independence Day, to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other leaders to further pursue the Naga political issue. Talking to this Correspondent after a cabinet meeting here today, Home Minister Imkong L. Imchen said the cabinet had earlier decided to take up the matter with the Prime Minister in New Delhi apprising him of the urgency for solving the Naga issue but had not set a definite date.

The Home Minister said the cabinet acknowledged and appreciated the sincerity of the Centre in solving the Naga issue while also understanding its position. During the visit to New Delhi, the members of the state cabinet would be sharing and exchanging views with the Prime Minister and other top central leaders.

In this connection, a cabinet meeting was held today to discuss about the major problems such as the Naga political issue, airports, railways, a medical college and the ‘drought-like-situation’ in the state. Rio would be attending the internal Security meeting convened by the Union Home Minister on August 17 at Delhi which will be addressed by the Prime Minister. After it, the Union Home Minister has given appointment to the Nagaland cabinet on August 18 while the Prime Minister is yet to give appointment.

Meanwhile, there are some speculations that the visit is also aimed in seeking more central funds to the state. Among other issues discussed in today’s cabinet meeting included the state’s position on the swine flu epidemic. A report has also  been given by the Medical department.
