Tening-Lekie road project: Stakeholders condemn harassment & threat to workers

DIMAPUR, JUNE 22 (MExN): Stakeholders of the under construction Tening-Lekie road in Peren district have expressed concern at incidents of harassments and threats meted out to workers of the project by people claiming to be national workers. 

A meeting on this issue was held on June 17 which was represented by leaders of the Liangmai Council, Nsong Area Frontal Organisation, Chairmen Union Tening Area, GB Union Tening Area, Liangmai Students Union and Zeme Students Union, besides a host of public leaders from the area. 

While appreciating the Naagaamii Infratech Pvt Ltd for executing the works in one of the most remotest areas in the district and the State, the leaders representing the various organizations expressed their resentment against the “anti-social elements and the high handedness of some individuals claiming to be national workers who at their own interest are doing their best to halt the ongoing work by way of imposing random demand using abusive words against those laborers engaged at the work site.” 

The representatives further stated that “their misanthropic act towards the workers have started since December 19, 2022, where on several occasion they even have went up to the extent of seizing keys of the machineries by way of imposing numerous threats.” 

Under such circumstances, they called upon those concerned to abstain from carrying out such activities, which will hamper the progress of the ongoing work. They further sought for cooperation so that timely completion of the road can be witnessed.

The members present said that it was the aspiration of the common people to have good road connectivity. They stated that no individual will be allowed to carry out such anti social activities in the area that will diminish the peaceful execution of the work. They further said that enough hardship and untold suffering has been experienced by the public since decades due to poor road connectivity. They stressed that the people from the area have every right to go in parallel with the rest of the people from the district and the State.
