In a singular case, a COVID-19 patient who is asymptomatic has repeatedly tested positive for 6-7 times and is currently being treated at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) COVID-19 Hospital.

According to reliable sources, the patient has been in the hospital for more than a month now.

From the time of a person testing positive for the novel Coronavirus, they are tested again after 14 days, and if the test results still show positive, the test is again conducted after 5 days.

While the test results of most COVID-19 patients who are asymptomatic and recover show negative within 10 days and are subsequently moved to COVID-19 Care Centre for observation, it has been learnt that the case of the COVID-19 patient at NHAK is exceptional in that the number of tests being done is 2-3 times more than other patients.

There are reportedly few other cases of those who have tested positive for the 4th time but are negative in the 5th test.

Consequently, few patients have also stayed in the hospital for approximately 33 days but the above mentioned asymptomatic patient’s has been the longest so far.

However, the condition of the COVID-19 patient is said to be stable and has shown no symptoms from the time of being tested positive or developed any symptoms till now. The health of the patient has also not deteriorated in any manner, it was learnt.

Commenting on the case, a doctor said, “It could be detection of the dead remnants of the virus. There are few cases of the RT-PCR being persistent but it may not necessarily mean it is still infectious.”
