Therie criticizes Sept 12 consultative meeting as 'futile'

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 15 (MExN): Former Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President, K Therie on Sunday criticized the State Government's consultative meeting held on September 12, describing it as "futile and a waste” while pointing out that such a similar meeting held on March 9, 2022.

In a statement, Therie said the meeting failed to advance the political solution process and instead shifted responsibilities to the negotiating teams and the Government of India (GOI).

Therie emphasized that the two agreements and the conclusion documents from October 31, 2019, are crucial and should be the basis for moving forward. He criticized the government for not providing these documents to delegates and for deviating from previously agreed-upon resolutions. According to Therie, the resolution passed on September 12 aimed at initiating new talks is a step back from the agreements made in the presence of high-ranking Indian officials.

"The Congress party remains committed to implementing the gentlemen's agreements as outlined in our election manifestos," Therie asserted. He pointed out that despite the rejection of the NPCC's manifesto by the public, the Congress has not wavered in its stance. The Congress is prepared to implement a solution, as outlined in their draft, should they be given the opportunity.

Therie also took issue with the NPCC president’s endorsement of the September 12, 2024 resolution, claiming it deviates from the Congress party’s established position on resolving political issues.
