Tikzik- The new Naga Bamboo Percussion

Arenla Subong of Abiogenesis today stated that a new Naga bamboo percussion has been born out of circumstances.

When NETV approached Abiogenesis to feature in their Fevikwik Just Music and told that the shooting would be outdoors in a natural surrounding and that music should be played unplugged, the band realised that the drum had to be left out, as it is too loud. The other acoustic instruments would be drowned, Arenla said.

“Therefore, while the band was wondering what the drummer should do or play, Moa got a brilliant stroke and came up with the novel innovation of the bamboo percussion naming it Tikzik,” Arenla said.

She explains that the Tikzik is a new Naga Bamboo percussion instrument that sounds and played by holding with one hand, struck onto the finger or balm of the other hand while the fingers can also simultaneously tap single note or beat repeatedly like a roll onto the Tikzik stick while the shake sound is also heard.

Naga Tikzik can be classified as un-pitched percussion instrument, which produces notes without an identifiable pitch. The Tikzik will be unveiled at Mokokchung during Moatsu festival.
