TLM distribution camp for persons with Intellectual Disabilities held

Kohima, March 27 (MExN): The National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NEIPID) formerly known as National Institute of Mentally Handicapped, (NIMH) in collaboration with Government of Nagaland, Cherry Blossoms Society and Nagaland Parents Association for the Disabled (NAPAD) held a Teaching Learning Material (TLM) distribution camp for persons with Intellectual Disabilities on March 24 at Old DC Bungalow Conference Hall, Kohima.  

The chief guest Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe, Additional Secretary, Social Welfare enlightened the participants about the Constitution of India which itself lays much importance on Rights of Equality and that there are job reservations now for differently able persons by the Government of Nagaland (which has increased from 3 to now 4 reservations).  

Shilpa Manogna, from NIEPID, who welcomed the idea of more schools being added for new programmes under which they would try to provide computer assisted classrooms for the differently-able, stressed on the importance of following the prescribed format on availing the benefits given by the central Government to Disabled people.  

Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Rajesh Soudararajan, IAS gave assurance to lend support to encourage such programmes in our region and that more quarterly or bi-annual camps should be held to assist the differently able people. He also wanted more awareness to be created among the people on how to go about filling disability certificates with proper details to avail benefits from the Government and different organizations helping in this matter.  

Short speeches were delivered by NAPAD Secretary, Kapochu-o Naleo and Purnima Kayina from Cherry Blossoms Society. They emphasized on the importance of Teaching Learning Material as it can benefit a person with slow learning capabilities and how it can make it easier for them to comprehend and thus making learning more knowledgeable and fun for them.  

The vote of thanks was delivered by Atha Vizol, Commissioner Disability, Nagaland where he reiterated the need to raise awareness issue among the people of Nagaland. He thanked the NBCC for making November 3 (Sunday) as Disable Sunday Day.
