Minister for Higher & Technical Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along, lamented that Naga society has become a “blaming society” with too many NGOs, unions and associations working at cross purposes.
The minister said Nagaland has become a land of unions and associations and most Nagas have abandoned the culture of hard work and simply depending on their respective unions to fight for their rights and collect numerous taxes to survive.
“Too many unions will be the downfall of Nagaland. We are 90 percent lazy state and we do not want to work hard,” Along said in his address as chief guest at the 27th annual Fresher’s Meet of City College of Arts & Commerce on Saturday.
He said Naga society has become a society where “inner strength” is replaced by outward show of pride and questioned what is so proud about being a Naga that we cannot tolerate other people, or quarrel among the Naga family.
He said the need of the hour is for a society that is fearless and not afraid to speak the truth. The minister said the youth and students being the future of any society, they need to be game-changer and life-changer to build a robust Nagaland.
Along said if a person is driven by one’s goal, vision and needs, then God and the whole world will help that person to succeed.
“You live only once. Do not be afraid of making mistakes or circumstances around you”, he said.
Terming education institutions as a cradle where one’s future is moulded, he further reminded the freshers that the time to chart their destinies is at hand.
On the occasion, the minister also inaugurated the foundation stone of the college auditorium.
Administrator City College, Dr. Vilika Zhimomi, delivered welcome address, Sentila Longchar spoke on behalf of freshers and CCACSU general secretary, Boto Y Swu, spoke on behalf of old students.
City College MD, N Kumar, also conveyed greetings on the occasion.
