For smooth flow of traffic and peaceful 25th edition of Hornbill Festival 2024 from December 1, Kohima Police have put in place traffic advisory and robust security eco-system for the entire festival with special focus at Kisama Heritage Village.
“This time round, with the expected increase in the number of tourists both international as well as domestic, we have realized that traffic is going to be a big challenge for all of us,” informed Nagaland Police Additional Director General (ADG) Renchamo P Kikon while addressing a press conference here today at PHQ Kohima.
Kikon said a full-proof two-tier security arrangement has been put in place for the entire 10-day celebration.
To uphold the prevalent peaceful and tranquil atmosphere, uniformed personnel, including security guards with sophisticated arms, would be restricted from entry to the main venue, Kikon said. He informed that security personnel for VIPs and VVIPs will have to be in civil clothes. The arms carried by them will have to be concealed.
Kohima Additional SP (Traffic) and protocol officer Tshurhosie Kajiri said that Kohima Police has come up with a traffic plan for easing the Traffic congestion and to help the visitors to reach Kisama on time during the festival.
This year, with the initiative of the state government, for the first time in Nagaland, he said “We are introducing free shuttle bus service to avoid inconvenience to all the visitors.” 50 to 60 buses have been arranged for this purpose.
To assist tourists, six Tourist Police Assistance Booth have been set up at Dimapur Airport, Dimapur Railway Station, PHQ junction, Phoolbari (Old MLA Hostel junction), ISBT Kohima and Kisama, he said.
