Senapati | November 12

Following a request by the United Naga Council (UNC) to AK Mishra, Advisor (North East), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, the date for the next tripartite talks on the Manipur new district creation issue has been rescheduled to November 29.

On November 8, Mishra had invited the Naga body to attend the next round of talks in Senapati on November 13. However, the UNC expressed its inability to attend the talks on the proposed date in a letter dated November 10, citing "inevitable prior engagement of some members" and requested a rescheduling.

In response, Mishra informed the Naga body today that the next round of talks will now be held on November 29, 2024, in Senapati.

It can be recalled that the tripartite talks on the Manipur new district creation issue, involving the Central Government, the United Naga Council (UNC), and the Government of Manipur, resumed on October 11, 2024, in New Delhi after a long hiatus. The previous Government of Manipur had created seven new districts on December 8, 2016. In protest against this act, the UNC had imposed a 139-day economic blockade along the national highways passing through Manipur.

After the lifting of the blockade, the first round of talks was held on March 19, 2017, followed by several subsequent rounds of talks.
