In a district which lacks basic amenities, and scarcely affords Personal Protective Equipments (PPE) in prevention of the COVID 19 outbreak, IPS Officer, Dr Pritpal Kaur, SDPO Tuensang is spearheading her Police team in stitching and sewing PPE and gears in Tuensang.
For a week now, Dr Kaur and her team of 14 police personnel and police tailor along with four private tailors, has been working daily for 8 hours in stitching, sewing and innovating personal protective equipments for Tuensang town.
"We are making a four layered homemade mask from sufficiently porous cover material since we didn't get surgical mask material due to lock down. It can at least prevent from droplet infections specifically from infected persons whenever they may cough or sneeze," said Dr. Kaur. Her team has already distributed 1000 mouth masks to various departments such as special branch, Fire and services, FCI Tsg, as well as farmers, villagers, street vendors, and the public. Further, ten PPE personal protective gears were contributed to the Medical team of the Chief Medical Office, Tuensang today.
"As I was doctor before coming to police, I thought preventing microorganism infections is foremost," says Dr Kaur.
With scarce resources in the lockdown, and no specific training, the SDPO Tuensang, read instructions from a government article and gave the idea to stitch to her team. Along with the permission from their SP Bharat Laxman Markad IPS who supported them 'financially and morally', the team also began stitching personal protective gears for the police jawans and medical team working in the field.
"This was minimum we could do for prevention," says Dr Kaur noting that the initiative is being conducted independently through the SP office and its family welfare fund.
Dr Kaur and her team has also collaborated with the Fire and Emergency Services Department in purchasing and spraying disinfectants in the whole of Tuensang town.
"We are providing to any department which is working in field and is not having masks with them. Its highly noticeable that public and police relations are getting healthy since cooperation by public is sin qua non in this kind of situation," states Dr Kaur.
The extraordinary measures initiated by officers like Dr Kaur and her team has received positive response. While distributing the masks, the Police team also makes an effort to create awareness on personal hygiene in the district.
"It is the minimum we could do as it is better than no prevention," remarks Dr Kaur.
