
Kohima, September 20 (MExN): Three junior wing cadets of the Dimapur-based 1 Nagaland Air Squadron NCC under the NCC Group HQ, Kohima have been selected to represent the Directorate General of NCC Football Team in the Subroto International Football (Under-14) Tournament.
They are Cadet Anguka Yeptho, Pilgrim School, Dimapur; Cadet L Eyilo Fabian and Cadet Tongtiser Longkumer from the Delhi Public School, Dimapur.
The cadets went under a rigorous selection procedure after trials held at Riyang Military Camp, Arunachal Pradesh.
This selection has been possible due the utmost dedication and hard work by the cadets, duly supported and encouraged by their parents and teachers, informed a press release from PRO Defence Kohima.
The Subroto Cup International Football Tournament is a prestigious inter-school football tournament that is held annually in New Delhi.
Named after the first Indian Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee, it is an annual event that began in 1960.
Conducted by the Air Force Sports Control Board, the tournament was conducted only for Boys U-17 category till 1997 but the Boys U-14 was introduced in 1998.
As per its website, to further the prime objective of the society to encourage soccer in the country, the tournament has been extended to Girls U-17 category in 2012.
This is a unique tournament where in the champion school teams from all states and foreign countries participate, making it one of the most noteworthy school-level football competitions, it added.
