UB announces wood chopping competition in Kohima

The United Brothers (UB) Kohima has invited interested participants for their upcoming Open Wood Chopping Competition to be held at Solidarity Park, Kohima on April 30.

During a press conference at Kohima, here Saturday, UB president Vikeduolie Khruomo said the competition is being organised in order to promote traditional way of wood chopping practiced by ‘our forefathers.’

He also added that on the other hand the event was a form of physical fitness and exercise. Although the game was practiced elsewhere in the world including some Western countries, the traditional way practiced over here in Nagaland was unique in nature as besides strength and endurance, there were also aspects like accuracy, agility and dexterity involved in the game which were not so evident elsewhere.

Khruomo further stated that entry form and tickets were available, however it was limited and would be handed out on first come first basis.

Prizes for men and women categories would be identical with Rs 1 lakh, Rs 50,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 for the top four positions respectively in each category.

First position holders in both men and women categories will also get a trophy of an axe along with the cash prize. While in the subtitle category the best looking axe will receive a gift hamper.

A minimum of Rs 2,000 will be charged as entry fee while tickets will be priced at Rs 1,000 per seat.

Participants will be judged according to the amount of wood they can chop in 180 seconds.

A lucky draw will be held during the event where the lucky winner will be awarded with a mini truck load of timber.

Spectators will be treated to complimentary food and drinks during the event, the organisers informed.
