UNC to hold tripartite talks tomorrow

Senapati, March 20 (NNN): The United Naga Council (UNC) said today that the “seriousness” of the State Government of Manipur will be “confirmed” in the next tripartite talks slated for March 22.   Two days before the next talks, UNC President Gaidon Kamei expressed hope that the State Government of Manipur will come with “concrete proposal” on the district creation issue when it comes to hold talks on March 22. At the same time, the UNC chief cautioned that if the Government undermines the Naga people’s position on the issue then “we have no other option but to take up our own course of action immediately.”   The last round of tripartite talks on the district creation issue was held on November 10, 2017 in Senapati district headquarters where the parties had decided that the “next round of the talks will be held on February 23, 2018.”   Sources said that there were various factors, including the last Manipur legislative assembly session, which might have caused the deferment of the tripartite talks to March 22.   The UNC maintain the stand that the Naga people have rejected the formation of the District Boundary Commission in the earlier tripartite talks.   Meanwhile, Gaidon Kamei stated this evening that the UNC suspended its agitation “as part of our move to welcome the new initiative and new political approach of the new State Government of Manipur.”   “We also obliged to the request of the Manipur Government to give enough time to prepare for the concrete proposal” on the issue, he added.   However, the UNC chief warned that it “can no longer wait like this” and reiterated that “in case of the Manipur Government trying to employ the dilly-dallying tactics on the issue, then the Naga people will also react accordingly.”
