The United Naga Council (UNC) announced this evening the temporary suspension of its proposed 48-hour "total bandh" in Naga areas, which was set to commence at midnight on October 3.
The decision comes in response to an invitation for tripartite talks regarding the rollback of district administrative changes. These discussions will involve representatives from the Government of India, the Government of Manipur, and the UNC, scheduled for October 11, 2024, in New Delhi. The UNC cited a request from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Security Advisor for Northeast India as a factor in their decision to suspend the bandh.
In its statement, the UNC expressed gratitude for the steadfast support and cooperation received from its constituent units, subordinate bodies, and various Naga organizations. The council urged the Naga populace to remain vigilant and prepared for further action until their demands are fully addressed.
The UNC's temporary suspension of the bandh highlights the ongoing tensions and negotiations surrounding the district rollback issue, reflecting the Naga community's desire for dialogue and resolution.
