Senapati, February 24 (NNN): The United Naga Council (UNC) has commended 22 Members of Parliament for submitting a memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging the Government of India to expedite the Indo-Naga peace process. The UNC praised the MPs for their “courageous gesture,” calling it a reflection of true democratic principles and respect for universal human rights. The Council highlighted that August 3, 2025, will mark the 10th anniversary of the historic Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) in 2015. While the agreement initially raised hopes for a lasting solution, the UNC expressed concern over the lack of progress, citing a “lack of political will” from the Government of India.
The UNC reminded that the Naga people, through various tribal and civil society organizations, have unanimously supported the NSCN in seeking an honorable and inclusive solution. However, the Council noted that the Government of India's approach at the negotiation table has raised doubts about its sincerity and commitment. Expressing full confidence in both negotiating parties, the UNC urged the Government of India to resolve the Indo-Naga issue with respect and honour, fulfilling the long-awaited aspirations of the Naga people.
