Kiphire, May 14 (MExN): The United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) issued what it terms a “final warning” on May 14 to the Chief Engineer, PWD National Highway (NH), Nagaland, regarding the immediate repair of NH-202 from 190.00 Km to 240.00 Km under Kiphire Division.
In the directive issued through the Executive Engineer, PWD NH Division, Kiphire, the USSC urged “immediate intervention” to direct the contractors to commence urgent road repairs on the stretch, adhering to the terms specified in the contract agreement signed between the department and the contractors.
The agreement clearly outlines that road repairs should be completed within 3 years to address the existing construction challenges, the Conference pointed out.
However, it expressed regret that the agreed-upon timelines have not been met, and the situation is reaching a critical point.
Despite repeated appeals made by the USSC regarding this matter, it is distressing to note that the required repairs have not been initiated, it said.
Accordingly, the USSC stated that the letter should serve as a “final warning” for the Chief Engineer’s office to promptly engage with the contractors involved and issue an unequivocal directive, emphasising the gravity of the situation and absolute enforcement to comply with the terms specified in the agreement.
Further, no maintenance bill, along with the security deposit and performance bill, should be released until the repair of potholes at various locations is completed, it said. An action taken report on the progress of the repair work must be intimated to the USSC office within 15 days from the issue of the letter, and strict adherence to this directive is non-negotiable, it added.
While anticipating a swift resolution that prioritises safety and the fulfilment of the shared vision for regional prosperity, the USSC cautioned that non-compliance with the directive “escalate the matter” and it would be compelled to initiate legal recourse and other options.
