VC Chairman defends Yamakam; refutes fund misuse charge

Dimapur, October 27 (MExN): Village council chairmen of Sangphur, Chasir and Meliangkiur village denounce a news item in the local dailies where MLA Yamakam was accused of misusing funds.

The villages defended the MLA’s contributing, asserting that they stand for the ‘truth and not against any political party or individual. This was asserted in a joint statement issued by chairmen S Mukam, Y Shito and P Wongkiuba of Sangphur, Chasir and Meliangkiur village councils. The chairmen clarified that the works undertaken within the villages’ jurisdiction through DUDA schemes for 2006-2007 “is being done with satisfaction in the eyes of public.” The note stated that the complainants as mentioned in the news (all from Y Auner village) belong to a particular political party and their claim that MLA Yamakam had drawn Rs. 50 Lakh under DUDA without any work is totally false. ‘Even as an opposition MLA, he is doing everything possible o develop and uplift the area” the chairmen reminded.

Buttressing their point, the chairmen informed that while works were going on the roads, village council members of the said villages even took part. They also helped continuously, transporting fuel and other materials for the bulldozers. After the works, the department in concern came for a spot-verification and after being satisfied, the bill was released, the chairmen explained. “Even photo shots of the work and locations were taken by the department as proof of works being done. Therefore we would like to request here that such false claims as stated by those disgruntled individuals should not be accepted by the media as they are only character-assassinating others at the behest of other equally disgruntled persons” the chairmen stated.

The statement further said that as village council members, (the village signatories) are not against any political party or individual but for the truth. The chairmen also requested that only ‘truthful news be given.’
