Vehicular movements restricted along NH-29

KOHIMA, JULY 23 (MExN): The Kohima district administration has issued fresh traffic restrictions on National Highway-29 in view of the deteriorating road condition at Chainages KM 175.100 and KM 175.350 near the old KMC dumping site.

In continuation of its earlier order, the administration stated that movement of vehicles along the affected section of the highway will be strictly regulated in the interest of public safety. According to the directive, light motor vehicles (non-transport) will be allowed to ply between 6 AM and 6 PM, subject to permissible weather conditions. However, authorities may immediately impose restrictions if the weather deteriorates. The affected stretch will remain closed to all vehicular movement during night hours.

Further, the movement of all heavy vehicles, including water tankers, para-military convoys, compact and mid-size pickup trucks, and all types of commercial passenger vehicles has been completely restricted along the affected section.

To facilitate the smooth flow of traffic, alternative routes have been notified. Kohima to Dimapur-bound light vehicles have been advised to use the Jotsoma Bypass Road, while Dimapur to Kohima-bound vehicles—both light and heavy—are directed to take the Peducha Bridge–Tsiesema (10 Mile) Road. All para-military vehicles are also instructed to use the Peducha–Tsiesema route exclusively.

The order was issued to ensure public safety and facilitate the unhindered execution of emergency operations and restoration work along the damaged highway. The administration warned that any violation of the directive will invite prosecution under relevant sections of law.
