Vehicular traffic along NH-2 resumed with the completion of diversion route on October 28.

Vehicular movements on National Highway-2, that connects Manipur and Nagaland and which had remained blocked for the past few days following a massive mudslide in Senapati district, has resumed on Wednesday.
Normal vehicular traffic along this highway, popularly called the lifeline of Manipur, remained completely suspended since October 23 evening after a massive mudslide that brought down around 50 meters of the stretch of the highway.
Since the damage of the highway, hundreds of vehicles including Imphal-bound loaded trucks remained stranded in Khongnem village area of Senapati district on both sides.
Normal vehicular traffic resumed early today (Wednesday) morning with the completion of cutting off a completely new diversion road nearby the damaged portion.
Light vehicles including inter-state passenger service vehicles have started moving on the newly constructed route even though officials said that heavy vehicles will also be allowed to move by today evening or early tomorrow morning.
Officials of the concerned authority involved in the making of the diversion road claimed completion of the construction of the new road ahead of the expected time.
Speaking to reporters in Imphal, chief engineer of state PWD, Thongbram Rabindrakumar said that earlier, they expected at least six days to complete the making of the diversion road to resume normal vehicular traffic. However, the work was completed within four days. It was due to the concerted efforts of all who were involved in the ground works and with the support of the district administration, police and villagers.
He said that they received full cooperation of the villagers living nearby the mudslide affected areas.
