Village puts an end to election campaign

In a major event leading up to the February 23 polls for a clean election process, any outsider, be it the contesting candidates, party leaders or any other election canvassers have been restricted from carrying the election campaign further in the village in any form till the casting of votes. This decision came into effect with the completion of the common platform programme.

Thüvopisü village, falling under 19th Phek A/C came up with this resolution under the banner of Thüvopisü Village Coordination Committee on Clean Election where a common platform was organized here today for all the three contesting candidates under 19th Phek A/C. However, law and order machineries, election department and medical etc. are exempted from this resolution.

All the three candidates were allotted 40 minutes each in this common platform and personal criticism was restricted. The Committee put a condition that only 10 vehicles with 50 delegates were allowed to represent each party for this programme.

The Committee in conformity with NBCC and CBCC on Clean Election Campaign, formulated resolutions in the form of directives to preserve and uphold the integrity, sanctity and unity of the Thuvopisu villagers both within and outside the village.

The common platform programme was aimed to enable the candidates to highlight their respective plans, policies, commitments etc. towards the welfare of the common people, and thereby, enable the villagers to vote for the candidate of their choosing.

NPF candidate Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu affirmed that he will stand by NPF’s election manifesto that has committed to uplift and fulfill the aspirations of the people on all fronts. He said health sector and road connectivity will be his priority area in the constituency level. Referring to road sector, he said Detailed Project Report (DPR) on black topping of Chozuba to Phek road via Thüvopisü has been finalized and would be taken up within a year or two.

Azo claimed that NPF would not only win with a huge margin in the constituency but that the party was headed for victory in the overall general assembly election in the state. He appreciated the efforts of Thuvopisu Village Coordination Committee on Clean Election comprising the village council, GBs and frontal organizations to ensure “Clean Election” in conformity with the clarion call of NBCC, CBCC and CPO in the ensuing state assembly election, adding that restriction on carrying out further election campaign after common platform has set a good example not only to Chakhesangs but to the Nagas as a whole.

The Independent candidate Er. Vekho Swuro announced that his top priority would be to focus in the rural areas of the constituency with special attention to Tizu area. He declared that his motto will be “Work and Eat” and promised equality in infrastructure development for the benefit of one and all. Stating that every person is blessed with a talent in different fields, he claimed that he has the talent for development and therefore wanted to translate the same to the people. He also wished to see that the package under Public Distribution System is reached to deserving beneficiaries. He stated that he was happy to be an independent candidate for if elected, he would join the ruling party.

Congress candidate Dr. Kuvezochi Hoshi told the gathering that he will stand by the policies and programmes of the Congress party in compliance with the party’s manifesto. He exuded confident that Congress would come to power and solicited the voters to cast their vote for him. Dr. Hoshi stated that Congress will focus on equality and to improve the living standard of the people.

Assuring that Congress will pursue for the effective implementation of the national flagship programmes, he said that Congress would enhance the coverage of the programme in the state. Dr. Hoshi also stated that if voted to power Congress would vigorously pursue for India’s Look East Policy for the benefit of the state. He stated that the pension for widows and senior citizens will be enhanced to Rs. 1000 if Congress comes to power, also, the annual allowance and sitting for VCMs and GBs will be taken into account.

Referring to Food Security Act, Dr. Hoshi said efforts will be made to enhance the strength of ration card holders. Calling the attention of the gathering to ensure a peaceful election in Nagaland, he wanted to see that “God fearing government” is formed this time round.

Others who spoke included; Vejoi Vero and Nuzota Swuro from the NPF; Kupota Khesoh, Vekhutso and Niekhusa for the Independent candidate; Thuputhiyi Venuh, Khosapa Venuh and Chokriveyi Venyo from the Congress party.

The programme was chaired by Thüvopisü village council chairman Vesathu Dozo.
