Imphal, August 4 (MExN): Women Action for Development (WAD) has condemned the series of “heinous” crime committed against three minor girls in the last few months in Manipur. “WAD is deeply concerned over such brutal torture against the young girls who are our future generation. This is totally a threat to all the girls of the state. We cannot compromise at all,” stated a press statement from WAD secretary, Sobita Mangsatabam. It asserted that the rape and attempt to murder of a minor girl in Senapati, the July 23 incident in Moreh, where a minor girl student was shot dead, suspicious death of a class XI student who went missing since July 16 and was found dead on July 20 at Iril river, Urup Makha Leikai Imphal East district respectively are “brutal and heinous crime against humanity.” WAD further expressed concern over the custodial death of Mutum Indira (38), who died in the custody of Andro Police Station, Imphal East district on July 1. It appreciated the step taken by the government in connection with the custodial death of Mutum Indira and the decision of magisterial inquiry to be conducted. However, WAD demanded judicial inquiry in the incident. Meanwhile, it urged the authority to tackle the three cases of minor girls through the fast track court without delay. It also demanded to arrest the accused of the rape & attempt to murder and those involved in the suspicious death of the class XI student.
