Dimapur, September 10 (MExN): A Sumi organization today urged the Nagaland government to ‘withdraw’ the 3-member fact finding committee as it “is likely to flare up communal misunderstanding.” The organization Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) issued a press release today saying “The principle of forgive and forget should come from both parties and not only one side. Since the fact finding committee on September 1 incident is likely to flare up communal misunderstanding, the WSYF urges the government to immediately withdraw the 3-member committee headed by DG (retd) Walling.”
The WSYF said the “Sumis in general” have honoured the “peaceful compromise between the Kohima Sumi Hoho and Kohima Village Council” regarding the death of late Kivika, which was followed by the unfortunate incident in Dimapur on September 1 leading to the death of one Kisheto Achumi.
“When Kanito, the father of late Kivika declared his forgiveness to the culprits responsible for the murder of his son, reconciliation was understood to have started and the entire Sumi community was in tandem with his gesture. As such, the funeral of Late Kisheto was kept low profile so as not to flare up the issue in the interest of communal harmony,” the WSYF said.
Further, after the September 1 incident, the Naga Hoho met with Sumi Hoho and Angami Public Organization for peaceful resolution. “However, the APO appears to have misunderstood such benevolent gesture and began to sideline the deaths of two precious lives and instead overshadow the deaths with loss of property. Therefore, the Western Sumi Youth Front is compelled to issue this statement that it has decided to own moral responsibility for September 1 vandalism and will compensate the loss incurred. In the same way, the APO will have to take responsibility for the death of Late Kisheto,” the WSYF asserted. The press release was appended by WSYF’s president K Kakiye Zhimomi and general secretary Mughavi Chishi.
