Nagaland authorities will deploy a helicopter with a “Bambi Bucket” on Sunday to combat the spreading wildfire in the isolated terrain of the Khonoma Dzükou valley, Government officials said on Saturday.
A google map clipping shared by authorities indicates that the fire has spread and crossed isolated terrain posing danger of spreading further as the wildfire is suspected to have been triggered on Friday morning.
Kohima Deputy Commissioner, Henok Buchem told The Morung Express that the government is requisitioning “Bambi bucket by chopper from tomorrow” headed by the Home department.
However, details into when and how many choppers will be requisitioned could not be obtained.

A “Bambi Bucket” operation is a wildfire fighting technique where a helicopter uses a suspended, collapsible container to drop water on fires. The operation involves a helicopter, equipped with a Bambi Bucket, flying to a nearby water source like a lake or swimming pool to fill the container. The pilot-controlled valve is then used to release a stream of water over the fire.
The Kohima DC further added, “human intervention appears near impossible due to unfriendly, isolated terrain and appears risky situation for the volunteers.”
Meanwhile, he informed that volunteers will continue its efforts even tomorrow.
The wildfire began on December 12. In its initial stages, volunteers rescued four stranded trekkers from the area. The trekkers later admitted to accidentally starting the fire.
