The camp and trekking was held in Kangtsung, Tuli under Mokokchung district from January 16 to 20 January for three nights and four days. The program was funded by the Wipro foundation and is organized by Community Educational Centre Society.
The aim of the program is to provide immersive nature education through exploration of verdant scenery, rivers, indigenous flora and cultural traditions, along with the narratives of the local community.
Activities were classified into three categories namely: ‘guided by nature's wisdom’ from subject experts, ‘bridging generations through nature's tapestry connect’ and ‘crafting traditions through indulging oneself unleashing their creativity.’ Outdoor enthusiast Nayantara Siruguri, Nature Educator, NCF during her nature walks session encouraged the participants to immerse their mind and body with nature to understand what people have been missing, juggling their busy schedule and let out one’s own senses to engross what surrounds them.
Juvi Kinimi, a student from Rincho Academy shared her experience: “As a student I’ve participated in many school activities but trekking and camping is my first time experience. During the stay I’ve learnt many things such as setting up own tent, making new friend, cooking in bamboo, trekking through the jungle, nature walk, visit to tea gardens and farms. The four days long journey was full of adventure.”
