Wokha village functionaries urged to ensure free, fair and peaceful election

Wokha, February 14 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner (DC) & District Election Officer (DEO), Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan IAS, called for a coordination meeting with the leaders of Wokha village and Longsa village on February 14 at Deputy Commissioner Conference Hall, Wokha.

The meeting was attended by SP, Wokha Aotula T Imchen IPS, village council chairman accompanied by all the GBs and council secretaries, a DIPR report stated.

Addressing the village leaders, Wokha DC informed that 144 CrPc is already in force and urged the leaders of the two villages to educate the public to be aware of the enforcement and sensitise regarding forming of youths camps within their areas as these are a violation of the Election Model Code of Conduct. He reminded that holding public rallies, processions and public meeting is restricted within the town and asked to obtain approval/permission from the DEO for the same.

SP, Wokha Aotula T Imchen IPS appealed to the citizens to avoid circulating fake news on social media and other news platforms without ascertaining the fact of events as it has the tendency of creating law and order problems and situations.

The village council chairman of Longsa and Wokha villages assured to abide by the direction of the district administration and law enforcement agencies and extend all possible support and cooperation and work together in co-ordination to ensure a peaceful atmosphere prevails and for the smooth conduct of the forthcoming election.

Further, the DC & DEO Wokha accompanied by SP also held consultative meeting with the Village Council Chairman and Council members of NYIRO Range comprising of nine villages namely, Yanthamo, Yimkha, Longla, Longidang, Rezumyan, Niroyo, Longsachung, Tsantsupen and Okheyan village at Yanthamo village on February 14. 

During the meeting, the DC and SP appealed the village leaders to educate the public in their respective villages not to indulge in any election related violence and also reminded them of their roles and responsibilities to ensure that no untoward incident happens.

The village functionaries assured their fullest co-operation, and to abide by the laid down rules and regulation of the Election Commission of India to ensure free, fair and peaceful election, stated a DIPR report. 

Similar co-ordination meetings were also held with village leaders of Chukitong Range, Longsa and Wokha villages.
