Kohima, September 8 (MExN): A three-day workshop on ‘documenting and developing cultural heritage: methodological approaches’ under the aegis of the Department of Art & Culture, Nagaland in collaboration with Centre for Naga Tribal Languages, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Meriema commenced  at the premises of NU, Kohima Campus, Meriema on September 7.

Addressing the inaugural session as the guest of Honour, Prof N Venuh, Pro Vice Chancellor NU Kohima campus, Meriema, said that given the contemporary scenario where Naga society is changing at a rapid pace, the need to have such workshop is the need of the hour. He said that ‘a change of perception about the way we view native researchers is much needed.’

Adela Moa, Director, Art & Culture Nagaland dwelled on the importance of having such a workshop to equip the officers of the department with necessary information and skills. Yanbeni Yanthan, faculty and coordinator of the workshop spoke on the need for the development of cultural heritage and relooking at ways, “we understand cultural heritage especially in the context of decolonisation and carving an indigenous way of looking at culture and identity.”

The inaugural session was chaired by Dr Imlienla Imchen, Faculty and Co-coordinator, CNTLS while Dr Laishram Bijenkumar Singh, Faculty and Co-coordinator, CNTLS proposed vote of thanks.

The workshop, to continue till September 9, will feature resource persons like historians, archaeologists, academicians and community folklorists and linguists.
