WSBAK against decision to sell liquor to G-20 foreign delegates

DIMAPUR, APRIL 3 (MExN): The Western Sümi Baptist Akukuhou Küqhakulu (WSBAK) has come out against the recent decision made by the Government of Nagaland to allow the sale of liquor to foreign national delegates attending the G20 Business Summit scheduled from April 4 to 6 in Kohima.

“This is yet another total blunder decision made by the Government of Nagaland concerning the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989. The Government of Nagaland claimed that this relaxation is done under ‘Special Permits to Foreign Sovereign’ in the 16th Para of the Nagaland NLTP Act, however, the Act says otherwise,” the WSBAK stated.

It noted that the Act “clearly does not mention the ‘sale’ of liquor to foreign nationals as claimed by the Government of Nagaland." It is to be reminded once again to the Government of Nagaland that the NLTP Act is an Act that prohibits possession, sale consumption and manufacture of liquor in and of import and export thereof in the State of Nagaland, the WSNAK said.

Every other law under the NLTP Act comes under the canopy of the above preamble of NLTP Act, it said. The WSBAK stated that hence, the sale of liquor to foreign nationals is a clear infringement of the NLTP Act. It urged the Government of Nagaland to revoke its decision and respect the NLTP Act.
