Dimapur, September 5 (MExN): The Western Sümi Hoho (WSH) has urged the state government to take swift action to address the challenges posed by recent landslides, particularly in Pherima, while also calling for the immediate completion of the stalled Capital Bypass road project.
The WSH expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for his timely visit to the landslide-affected areas, demonstrating his commitment to the welfare of citizens. They also acknowledged the efforts of Zhaleo Rio, Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, for personally visiting the areas and assessing the situation.
However, the WSH stressed the need for more than just visits, urging the government to follow through with financial compensation and relief materials for the families and individuals affected by the landslides. The Hoho emphasized that immediate assistance is crucial for those who have suffered significant losses.
Regarding the long-pending Capital Bypass road project, the WSH reminded authorities that land compensation disputes involving two villages had been resolved some time ago. They called for the resumption of work on the project, which is seen as a vital alternative route to the landslide-prone NH-29.
The Hoho expressed concerns about subcontracting arrangements, originally awarded to M/s Vilelie Khamo & Sons but later subcontracted to M/s Hi-Tech Construction & Co and a third party. The WSH demanded a thorough review of the subcontractors' qualifications and close monitoring of the project's progress.
The organization urged all parties involved to assume full responsibility for the project's timely completion, given its importance in providing relief to citizens affected by the current state of NH-29.
