WSYF and SOTK condemn alleged ‘attempted murder’

Dimapur, March 12 (MExN): The Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) and Shena Old Tüghalomi Küqhakulu (SOTK) have condemned the March 9 incident in Zukihe village, Niuland,  in which one Yetovi Zhimomi was assaulted.

The WSYF, in a press release, said that  it  will in no way tolerate such “barbaric” and cowardly act “by the very people we shelter on our own soil.” Terming the assault an “attempted murder,” it named two individuals— Naveen Kumar Singh and his father Dharam Singh, alongwith 30 others, as implicit and called for the arrest of all the perpetrators involved.

It warned of taking matters into their own hands if the law enforcement agencies fail to do so. It though extended “full support to the agents of law in carrying out their operations for speedy and just actions.”

According to it, the March 9 case was not the first such instance. “Such repeated offence of similar nature has made the area a hotspot of criminal activity which cannot and will not be tolerated,” it asserted, while holding the government accountable for failing to provide safety.

To this end, the WSYF requested the state government to establish a police station in Khaghaboto Area for establishing the “peace and tranquillity,” long wished for in the area. It asserted that there is urgency for such a set-up, as the area acts as a border trading transit point, which has allegedly remained unchecked.

The WSYF also appealed respective chambers of Commerce and Industry and the various business bodies of Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland districts to keep track of “illegal immigrants and unregistered non-locals residing for business and other purpose.”
Besides, the WSYF informed that it would be exercising an intensive bio-data collection drive of “outsiders” residing in the Western Sumi inhabited areas with immediate effect.

The SOTK termed the assault a “murderous attack” on one of its bonafide members instigated by the father-son duo, proprietor of M/S World Bricks Factory.

According to the SOTK, the victim, who was with the landowner, had gone to the proprietor of the brick kiln to settle yearly land tax and fees.

However, there was a misunderstanding and the proprietors allegedly “incited the labourers” to attack the victim, stated the SOTK in a press release.

Terming the assault “intolerable and unacceptable in any manner,” the SOTK appealed for giving befitting punishment to the culprits as per the law of the land.

As reported by The Morung Express on March 11, the father-son duo was arrested by the Niuland police on March 9.

The duo was taken  into custody by the Niuland Police Station, the same day, after they were handed over by villagers following the alleged assault incident. Police inquiry was on.
