The Yonyu Citizen Union commemorated its silver jubilee from February 25-26 at Yonyu village in Tuensang district.
Congratulating the Union on its silver jubilee, guest of honour MP Nokshang urged the gathering to stay united.

Nokshang, who is the President of the 51 Noksen A/C NDPP Unit, said it was a time for the people to retrospect on how far the village has progressed over the period.

“We need to look at how our village has progressed over these years and retrospect on it. We still have so many areas where we need development. I have learnt that your church has recently celebrated 75 years platinum jubilee and as for the citizen union, as we step towards another 25 years, we must come together as one,” he said.

He called on the people to be truthful to one another. “This year is canvassing year for the coming election and different politicians will come to your village seeking for your support. But if you are not truthful and with no collective approach towards your village’s upliftment then this village will still lack behind in development,” he added.

He further encouraged them to stay united and in co-operation in the name of the jubilee and urged the village elders to take responsibility and the rest must co-operate with them.

He also emphasized the importance of written records of village’s history.

“We need to record everything in written, keep it intact and even make a book for authenticity as well. You must own your citizenship and must be proud of it,” he said.

Sungjemliba, Pastor, Longtang Baptist Church and Rapa, Pastor, Kümpüng Baptist Church also spoke during the programme which was chaired by W Chingmak and S Hongten, while invocation prayer was led by the prayer committee of the church.

Short speeches were delivered by KM Yanchu, DB, Citizen Advisor and K Melong, Head GB, Yokumsang village. Special numbers were presented by Yonyu Union Saoshuong, Tuensang Town and N Senti and Y Aten.

A special prayer of remembrance for deceased loved ones was led by B Somba, Pastor, Yonyu Baptist Church.
