KOHIMA, JUNE 20: Emboldened by the return of  the Congress regime in sister Assam state in the recent election, the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) is  set to zero in on Nagaland to help Congress return to power.

Susanta Bongahein, General Secretary, IYC, who is here on the directives of the high command to revive the activities NPYC, said that with the countdown to the next elections nearing closer, the IYC is warming up for the next election battle in Nagaland.  He said that IYC would play a vital role in the forthcoming state elections and bring the  Congress back to power.

The IYC has worked out three points strategies for the start, which includes setting up of assembly constituency committees, village-level committee (booth committees) by October and district level leadership training camps by December.

Susanta also said that the party would concentrate on youths, which forms the major chunk of the vote bank.

The IYC will also ship in some young MPs like Rahul Gandhi, Sachin Pilot etc to campaign for the Congress.

However, all these activities would be monitored by the Pradesh Congress Committee. Iyangba Aonak, Vice-president, NPCC has been entrusted with the job of supervising the youths, it was maintained.

Meanwhile, at an executive meeting held here today, the Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress adopted a three points resolution as part of its 'warming up'. It stated  that the NPYC would press the high command to allot a substantial percentage of party tickets as a quota for the NPYC leaders.

The resolutions said that they would work vigorously right from the grass-root level so as to create conducive atmosphere for the party and dislodged the ruling DAN in the next elections slated for 2008. The resolutions also condemned the equi-closeness policy of the DAN government. An appeal was also made to the underground organizations  to shun violence and urged the government of India to expedite the peace process.

The NPYC will be kick- starting an intensive membership-drive in the district as a key strategy to combat the ruling DAN in the next election-battle.
