Zunheboto reels from landslide

13 houses destroyed, cost of damage estimated at Rs. 40 lacs

ZUNHEBOTO (MExN): A heavy landslide occurred at the Daily Market area between DC hill and Project Colony west ward, Zunheboto due to torrential rainfall. At least 13 houses were destroyed in the landslide which occurred here at around 8:30 pm last night. Although no mortal causalities were reported, the damage incurred was heavy. Some officials estimated the damage to be around Rupees 40 to 45 lakhs.

According to the Town Councilor Khehoshe Yeptho, if no preventive measures are taken immediately more than 50 houses are likely to be affected if the incessant rainfall continues. The other parts of the town affected are Laghilato, DC Hill and Project Colony. In and around the affected areas several houses are being evacuated to safety. The District Administration, Police force and several NGO’s visited the affected areas early in the morning to take stock of the situation. The public of Zunheboto has appealed to the concerned Authorities and the Departments to help and take necessary preventive measures immediately.
