Mokokchung, September 17 (MExN): The 14th edition of the Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy 2019 organized by Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA) got underway on Tuesday at Multi-Purpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung.
The tournament was declared open by Rajesh Soundararajan IAS, President MDSC & Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung as the inaugural Patron.
In his speech the inaugural patron said that he was a volleyball player himself and played for more than fifteen years in his prime years. He congratulated the MDVA for successfully organizing the tourney and for the commendable job in promoting volleyball making sure the youngsters get the best of opportunities.
He appealed the players no to limit their capabilities at just the district level but to go beyond our limit and aim for the national and international level. He also encouraged the players to maintain discipline which should come from within asdiscipline is the main quality for sports.
Altogether 9 teams including two teams from Dimapur and Zunheboto are participating in the event. The teams are divided into two pools and the league cum knock out match will be played accordingly. The teams in pool A are Chantongya Volleyball Association - A, Contender Club, Ajiqa, DEF, Mokokchung, Longsa Sports Association and Amy United, Khensa. The teams in Pool B are Sakutemjen Memorial Club, Chungtiayimsen, Sukushomi Club, Dimapur,
In the opening match, defending champion Sakutemjen Memorial Club, Chungtiayimsen, Sukushomi Club, Dimapur, Chantongya Volleyball Association – B and Sosang Club, Longpayimsen.
The first match was played between Changtongya Volleyball Association A and Contender Club, Ajjiqa. Changtongya Volleyball association A won 25-11;32-30;25-13.
