Nagaland today joined the rest of the country in observing National Immunization Day across the state.


Dr Ritu Thurr, State Immunization Officer (SIO), Directorate of Health and Family Welfare said the state has a target of 2, 77,283 beneficiaries with 2274 booth set across the entire state by deputing 9096 Front Line Health Workers (FLHW), and 441 Surveillance Worker (SW) .


In the state capital Kohima, Kohima deputy commissioner Thejawelie Gregory Sote officially launched the programme at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) and later administered first polio to a three year old girl child.


In commercial capital Dimapur, V Lovitoly Sema, ADC Dimapur launched the Polio Sunday by administering the first two drops of polio. In Dimapur, a total of 43355 children between  0-5 years are targeted.


IPPI was launched in Mon at District Hospital under the theme “Let the victory over polio continue with two drops of life,” targeting 24461 children while Wokha observed the day to to immunize 10,003 children. In Zunheboto, IPPI launching programme was held at CMO office premises and the district’s total target under 0-5 years is 7600 children.


The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind launched the nationwide Intensive Pulse Polio Programme (IPPI) for this year by administering Polio drops to children below five years at Rashtrapati Bhavan January 18.


Under this programme, over 17 crore children of less than five years of age across the country are administered polio drops, according to All India Radio.
The programme is a part of the immunization drive of the Central Government to sustain polio eradication from the country with the aim to maintain the 'No Polio' status.
