The 68th general conference of the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang will be held from January 15 to 17 at Khar village located at Jangpetkong range under Mokokchung district. A total of 2000 delegates from the six federating units of AKM and 32 subordinate units will be attending the conference to be held under the theme “Reinvigorate.”


Convenor of the planning committee of the 68th AKM general conference, S. Panger Ao said that there will be no “VIP culture” practiced during the conference. On the theme of the conference, he said that the Ao community today was lagging behind in various sectors and that it was high time for the community to reinvigorate and surge ahead to live up to the legacy of their forefathers. Along with education and academics, special focus is being given towards development of entrepreneurship and the Ao vernacular language and two workshops will be conducted on the two subjects as part of the conference.


The conference will begin on the evening of January 15 with the president of AKM, Imkongwati hoisting the AKM flag. Apart from the 2000 delegates, more than 200 invitees and guests are also expected to attend the conference that will end on the evening of January 17 with the adoption of resolutions and induction of new team of AKM leadership.


Nagaland minister for Agriculture and Cooperation, G. Kaito Aye will be attending the conference as guest of honour on January 15. Nagaland minister for Higher & Technical Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along will be the introductory guest while Tongpang Ozukum, Nagaland minister for Mechanical and Housing will grace the valedictory session on January 17 as special guest.


The host villagers are engaged in hectic preparations for the successful conduct of the conference. This is the first time that Khar village has hosted a general conference of AKM. Located 34 kilometers from Mokokchung town via Mopungchuket, Khar is a major village in Jangpetkong range and comprises of more than 400 households in the village. The village can also be reached from Mokokchung town via Changki.
