DIMAPUR, MARCH 19 (MExN): Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School (SHHSS), Chizami held its annual Games and Sports meet from March 13 to 15 at the school ground. 


The inaugural session was graced by Rev. Fr. Dr. Sojan Xavier, Principal, St. Andrew School, Thenyizumi as the Chief Guest in the presence of Renbomo Ezung, SDO (Civil) Chizami, representatives from the Chizami Students’ Union, parents and well wishers. 


The programme began with an invocation and words of welcome by Rev. Fr. Patrick Neikhalo, Principal SHHSS and a welcome song by students of class III. The Chief Guest hosted the School Flag and the students saluted and sang School anthem which was followed by lighting of Annual Games and Sports Torch 2019. The solemn March Past of four Houses (Red, Yellow, Blue and Green) was led by Tshewa Akami which the Chief Guest received them with a Salute.  Taking Oath ceremony was administered by Neipe Puro and then Rhythmic Drill Display was performed by class class IV students. UKG and Class 1 students entertained the gathering with active Action Song and Miss Khrotsho-u and Miss Eliche-u enthralled them with their melodious voice titling ‘Try Everything’. 


Addressing the students, Rev. Fr. Dr. Sojan emphasised on the importance of games and sports in student’s life besides their studies quoting an old saying “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy”. He stressed on how regular games and sports help developed the physical and mental stamina of the students thereby urging the students to incorporate such habits in their daily routine. He advised the students to play the games in a fair and a competitive spirit mentioning that in games and sports everybody is a winner as whoever partakes ultimately gains the health benefits of one’s body. He also encouraged the students to work hard and persevere in order to become successful.

 
The inaugural programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Neipe Puro and the march out by the four contingents. Then, immediately Sports and Games kicked off with senior boys 100 m race as its first item. Other competitive items conducted on the first day were: 100 and 200 m race, sack race, potato race, High jump and Long jump, throw ball, etc.
