DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 17 (MExN): Dimapur District Invitational Veterans Badminton Tournament organised by the Dimapur District Badminton Association (DDBA) began Friday, February 17. The two-day long tourney is being hosted at the DDBA Indoor Stadium, United Colony (formerly Half Nagarjan) under Ward 21.
Additional Commissioner, Income Tax Angam Shaiza, IRS, graced the inaugural today as the chief guest. The chief guest in his address described badminton as a ‘beautiful game’ with no age bar. The beauty of the game lays in the fact that people of any age can take it up as an active sport and can be played outdoor as well as indoor, he said.  “Let us play in the right spirit”, Shaiza urged the participants, who is also an ardent badminton player and also a member of the DDBA.
Eighty participants (forty teams) from Kohima, Tizit, Phek, ARTC, Dimapur and Ukhrul from neighbouring Manipur have turned up for the doubles’ only competition.  The players are competing in three age categories – sub-veterans (35-plus), veterans (45-plus) and super veterans (55-plus).
